Skype interviews have greatly increased in number during the last decade. Whether you are a student or a graduate looking for a job, or simply want to study abroad, it is highly likely that at some point in your life you will be asked to participate in one. 

Regardless of who is going to conduct the interview and the fact that it is not conducted face to face, being properly prepared so as to impress the interviewer is of great importance. Keep your surrounding space tidy

This step is usually overlooked by most, but if the interviewer notices a general mess in your personal space then you will most likely not be chosen for your desired position, since untidy space is the indicator of a disorganized, or nonchalant individual. Don’t forget that first impressions matter!

Dress to impress

Even though you are tempted to simply wear a tank top and not something fancy… well, you should resist the urge. In other words, you should dress the way you would have had this been a face to face interview. Being dressed appropriately is key to making a good impression and increasing the probabilities of getting the job.

Make sure that the required platform has been successfully installed

In order to be completely sure, you can always perform a test call so as to check whether everything is fully functional. The last thing you want is trying to figure out why your speakers don’t function properly just when the interview has started!

Make eye contact with the camera and not yourself

This way you will be looking directly at your interviewer.

Be eloquent.

In order to ensure that everything you say is properly conveyed to your interlocutor, you need to make sure that you sound loud and clear. However, you should pay attention so as not to come off as shouting.

Don’t be embarrassed

If for an unknown reason the call is interrupted, or you happen to not hear a question clearly, do not hesitate to ask for clarifications or a repetition.
